A Woman's Place Is in Technology

As part of an effort to encourage more young women to choose careers in technology, Tennessee Tech University (TTU) Computer Science department, an Academic Alliance member of the National Center for Women &amp; Information Technology (NCWIT) has recognized 28 high-school women for their accomplishments and aspirations in computing and technology. This was the first time the NCWIT Award for Aspirations in Computing competition was held for the state of Tennessee and it will be held annually hereafter. The award event was held at TTU STEM Center on April 21st, from featured a keynote address by Ms. Amy Henderson, Director of Operations of Firefly Logic, a Nashville based custom software solutions company.The 13 Winners and 15 runners up from high school all cross Tennessee is listed&nbsp;here. The award recipients received trophies, certificate, and cash prizes among other swags. Tennessee Tech University offers three&nbsp;scholarships&nbsp;for eligible award recipients who will be joining the Computer Science program there.&nbsp;The Tennessee Affiliate of the NCWIT Award for Aspirations in Computing is a collaborative effort between NCWIT and faculty and students of Computer Science department at Tennessee Tech. The Award co-chairs are Dr. Martha Kosa and Dr. Ambareen Siraj.
