AiC Members In The News! (September #2)

  • Congratulations to AiC Community Members Shannon Yan, Kai Morton, and Maya Varma who were recently listed in Teen Vogue's 21 Under 21!
  • “I hope after it all I can start my own tech business, mainly in the video game space like I've always wanted to do,” said AiC Community Member Kai Morton. “I want to be the founder and CEO of a major company in the field of technology.”
  • “Oakland has a high crime rate and a large portion of the population is from underrepresented backgrounds or below the poverty line, so I wanted to make sure kids had access to this kind of education,” Shannon Yan explains. “My hope is that they’ll continue with it all through high school — especially the girls, who studies show lose interest in STEM after middle school. I believe this will promote more diversity in Silicon Valley.”
  • Maya Varma won the Intel Science Talent Search last March for creating, in her words, a "low-cost smartphone-based pulmonary function analyzer," a device that helps in the diagnosis and management of lung conditions like asthma, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), restrictive lung disease, emphysema, and chronic bronchitis. Her work was honored at this year’s White House science fair, even receiving a specific shout-out from the President himself during the televised ceremony!
