Zoya H.

Zoya (She/Her) is a Junior at Great Hearts Irving Upper School. She is a 3x Kode with Klossy participant (2020, 2021, 2022), and is involved with community efforts to raise the number of gender minorities in STEM. At her school, Zoya leads the Alpha Delta Omega STEM Society, encouraging her fellow peers to consider a career in STEM by arranging opportunities to communicate with adults from various STEM professions, and leading a research journal club to foster a sense of scientific curiosity. Outside of school, Zoya devotes her time to leading events for Hack Club, as a Summer 2023 intern and current Event Engineer. Zoya worked on organizing Outernet, a 4-day hacker camp bringing together 150+ teenagers from around the world to rural VT. She has also worked on helping organize several Days of Service events with 100+ participants, an initiative to give Girl Scouts chapters across the USA CS experience. Additionally, after recognizing the lack of governance on AI policy, she founded the LEARN (Lonestar Ethical AI Responsibility Network) Movement, which mobilizes youth all across Texas to advocate for, educate on, and develop research projects for more responsible usage of AI. In the future, Zoya aspires to combine her passion for STEM with her liberal arts education to bring a more humanistic perspective on the modern technological epoch. She hopes to pursue a Computer Science degree in her higher education, combining CS with Biology and Neuroscience for social good. In her career, she wishes to study projects delving into the ethicality of CS/AI and pursue research in AI for social good, utilizing innovation for positive social impact.
