Sydney is an ambitious high school student with a strong interest in computational biology and computer science. Driven by curiosity and a desire to advance biological research, Sydney completed an independent project with the Banks Lab on modeling and simulating nonstructural protein 4 of the human rotavirus to identify novel drug targets, earning a perfect score at the Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science Region (PJAS) 1A Meet and 1st place at the PJAS State meet. She was also able to attend the MERCURY Conference for undergraduate computational chemistry as one of two high school students. This research experience has solidified her goal to study computational biochemistry in college, where she plans to explore innovative solutions in drug discovery and disease prevention. With plans to pursue a degree that combines biology and computer science, Sydney aims to contribute to groundbreaking developments at the intersection of these fields. By harnessing computational tools to address pressing health challenges, she envisions a future where technology is central to combating global diseases and improving public health.
