Marry K.
Marry is a 17 year old senior from Michigan attending University High School Academy. She got into tech at 10 because of phone and computer hardware, which later transitioned into her love for software. After learning programming in middle school, she discovered her passion in software development. This resulted in her founding the Discord bot ProjectKepler and the app StarGaze during her sophomore and junior years, educating users on astronomy facts. She also is a web developer at The Next IT Girl and Shadow Your Future, where she helps manage both nonprofits. During her senior year, she fell in love with machine learning through her 15 page research project on star detection at the Pioneer Research Institute and her science writing article on astronomy-based AI at MITES Semester. She is currently researching racial bias in facial recognition. Furthermore, she is the president of the National Society of Black Engineers chapter at her school, as well as a former student of two CS University of Michigan programs (SMASH Academy & Joy of Coding). She plans to attend a top university to study computer science, receive both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees, and become a full stack or machine learning software engineer.
