Claire C.

Claire Cao is a senior at Jesuit High School in Portland, OR. She is passionate about leveraging computer science and technology for social good. She is the creator of ShelterBridge, an app connecting unhoused communities, service providers, and first responders to over 800 resources, including real-time shelter availability. Currently in use across Oregon, Washington, and California, ShelterBridge aims to increase access to social services. The app was inspired by Claire’s volunteer work at Blanchet House, a local food shelter, where she saw firsthand the barriers to accessing resources. Her interest in technology grew during a research internship at Portland State University, where she explored generative AI and cybersecurity applications to address real-world problems, further fueling her commitment to innovate for social good. Claire’s achievements include being a two-time National Cyber Scholar, 2024 Congressional App Challenge Winner, and 2x TEAMS TSA National Competitor. Beyond technical projects, she has mentored youth in cybersecurity and AI. Claire plans to study computer science and political science in college to develop technology that addresses global challenges. Outside of technology, Claire enjoys figure skating, traditional Chinese dance, model UN, and mock trial.
