Shreya Sreekantham is a computer science junior at Carnegie Mellon University who is passionate about enabling common-sense reasoning in AI. She is dedicated to developing accessible tech solutions and empowering underrepresented communities, from women in STEM to cancer patients. Some of her projects include teaching robots to open doors from internet videos, developing ML-based communication for paralyzed patients using brain-computer interfaces, and creating a custom chatbot to automate the completion of security questionnaires. In high school, she founded an organization called Route to Success to empower women in STEM, in which she organized math competitions, raised $1K for women's education in Africa, and hosted an international conference on the gender gap with an Emmy-award-winning speaker. Shreya continues her advocacy in college as VP of Outreach for Engineers Without Borders and Outreach Co-Chair for the Society for Women in Engineering. In the future, she hopes to pursue a Ph.D. focusing on identifying and mitigating biases in AI systems to develop assistive technologies for people with disabilities.
