User's Profile Picture

Kate M.

Kate teaches computer science at Overland High School and Cherry Creek Elevation High School. She has a degree in Computer Engineering from Colorado State University and a Master's degree in Education (also from CSU). She earned a Master's Certificate in CS Education from the College of St. Scholastica and is currently working on her EdD in CS Education at the University of Florida. This is her 13th year teaching CS, and she teaches AP CS Principles, AP CS A (for which she is also an AP reader), and Data Structures and Algorithms. In 2020, Kate discovered the CSAwesome curriculum and spent the summer writing a Junit testing library to auto-grade the active code assignments. Not only does this help teachers, but it also helps students because it gives them immediate feedback and (hopefully) helps them figure out their errors on their own. Since 2022, she has been a PD facilitator for CSAwesome and spent the summer teaching new CSA teachers Java and CS Pedagogy. Kate has been the lead mentor of the Overland BlazerBots, FIRST Robotics Team 3807. She is proud that the team is usually tiny but mighty, confident enough to wear pink! There are also many girls on the team, often with leadership roles.
