Jeff R.
Jeff has been a Technology Education teacher at North Royalton High School since 2003, and in 2017, he launched a Computer Science program at the school. Today, he teaches a variety of courses, including Basic Programming, Intro to Engineering Design (IED), AP Computer Science Principles (CSP), and AP Computer Science A (CSA). Over the years, Jeff has worked to create an engaging and inclusive learning environment for students, emphasizing both technical skills and real-world applications.
In addition to his work in the classroom, Jeff has held several leadership roles in education. He served on the Board of Directors for both the Ohio Education Association (OEA) and the National Education Association (NEA), advocating for educators' rights and policies that benefit students. He was also elected to the Board of Trustees for Ohio's State Teachers Retirement System (STRS), which oversees more than $90 billion in teacher pensions, further extending his impact in the field of education.
Currently, Jeff is a paid trainer for Code.org’s AP CSP curriculum and co-instructs the Ohio STEM Learning Network’s Computer Science Licensure Program, helping prepare new teachers for success in the field. He is also a reader for AP CSP exams and an independent contractor for AP, where he writes scripts for AP Daily videos. These roles allow him to stay at the forefront of educational trends and contribute to the professional development of other educators.
The accomplishment Jeff is most proud of, however, is his YouTube channel. In creating CS content for his students, he not only learned how to code but also discovered how to make computer science engaging and accessible. The channel has become one of his most valuable teaching tools and, in his words, has been the best teacher he's had in learning how to teach computer science effectively. This platform allows him to reach students both inside and outside the classroom, reinforcing his commitment to making computer science education both informative and inspiring.
