Gigi S.
Gigi is a mixed indigenous Iranian who moved to America at a young age. Now a freshman in college, Gigi has a massive interest in astrophysics, coding, and anything related to large-scale data.
Though Gigi was involved with coding on and off, she didn't take the field into deeper consideration until high school. They joined the Girls Who Code organization in junior year to learn a new skill for fun. The local branch was involved with making websites for the school's craft fair, researching the ethics of AI, local volunteering, and outreach for younger kids who want to be involved in STEM. In her senior year of high school, for her AP Research class, she decided to make a machine learning algorithm that properly identifies the time periods of Middle Eastern poetry, a way of honoring her heritage. The project earned a perfect 5, only earned among 1% of students, with her now hoping to show Iranian literature to new eyes.
Now, Gigi aims to join astrophysical research and utilize her skills learned from AP Research for other research too.
