Fred M.

Fred Major is a graduate of Birmingham-Southern College where he received a Bachelor of Science in Economics. He spent ten years as a public finance analyst and investment banker. Mr. Major returned to school to pursue a Masters of Education in Mathematics from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 2006. He was awarded a graduate assistantship with the University of Alabama at Birmingham’s Department of Mathematics in 2008. As a graduate assistant, he worked with the Greater Birmingham Math Partnership assisting with two UAB classes. Mr. Major also received the School of Education's award for Outstanding Secondary Alternative Masters Student in 2009. In 2011 Mr. Major earned the Highly Qualified designation in the field of Social Studies. In February 2015 Mr. Major was selected to participate in CS4Alabama, a National Science Foundation Pilot Project, in collaboration with the College Board for the final development of the Computer Science Principles course to become an AP course in 2016-1017. In 2017 Mr. Major was selected as the Shades Valley Rotary Teacher of the Year from MBHS and was selected for to received a Performance Award from Mountain Brook Schools. In June of 2017 Mr. Major participated as an AP Reader in the first ever Reading of AP Computer Science Principles. Mr. Major was selected as the Mountain Brook High School Teacher of the Year in November 2017.
