Brenda R.
Brenda has taught at Austin High School, with Decatur City Schools, since 2010. She is in her 8th year teaching AP Computer Science Principles, 7th year teaching AP Computer Science A, and 3rd year teaching Exploring Computer Science. Brenda's development of the computer science program at Austin High School has benefited a lot of students and continues to encourage students of all backgrounds to learn about computing. She looks forward to establishing a CSTA CS Honor Society soon.
She is excited to be in a position where she can share her personal experience to inspire and motivate students to pursue STEAM careers. Originally from Texas, she taught in Texas before moving to Alabama. She is a Fightin' Texas Aggie, Class of 2007! She received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering, with minors in Math and Spanish, from Texas A&M University in College Station in 2007 (Whoop!). She then received her Masters Degree in Curriculum and Instruction, with an emphasis on Mathematics Secondary Education in 2009, also from Texas A&M.
Her husband's occupation at NASA brought her to this area. She has two amazing little girls, Braelyn (11) and Belle (10). Braelyn is her brave little one who has been through a lot of medical struggles, but continues to be her sunshine who makes everyone in the room laugh. Belle is her quiet strength, shy with a lot of intellectual curiosity. Her kindness and love of life inspires Brenda. Between the two of them, they keep her on her toes with little sleep.
