Aidyl G.
My philosophy is STEAM beyond the classroom. I made it a point in my life to go out and spread the power of STEAM. I have students solving problems or developing devices that will aid human-kind.
I earned my Doctorate in Genetics from the California Institute of Technology, and I continue my science career mentoring high school and middle school students. I help families with different learners through a non-profit organization I co-founded and co-direct called the GoLD Initiative (Gift over Learning Differences Initiative). The foundation’s mission is to provide an extensive, holistic educational experience to school-age students by providing the most entertaining, engaging, fast-moving, and creative aspects of STEAM education through project-based learning for solving real-world science and engineering problems.
I currently work at the Brentwood School as a Science Educator and Researcher. I was at the Buckley School for seven years as a Science Educator, the STEAM director (K-12th), and the Science Department co-Chair (6-12th). In 2017, I won the Science Teacher of the Year at the California Science Fair and an award from Latino Thought Makers: Women Who Rule. I am currently a PoSSUM scientist-astronaut Class 1902 and a PoSSUM 13 Ambassador STEM Coordinator.
I provide professional development to STEAM teachers through OESIS. I also participate in the podcast show, Latino Thought Makers, for a discussion about STEM and different STEM career paths. I also discussed how to be a dynamic science teacher in the podcast time4coffee (https://time4coffee.org/tag/aidyl-gonzalez/).
