I have been teaching at Cheney High School in Cheney, WA since 1998. I currently am a FBLA Advisor, Cyber Patriot coach, Spokane CTSA Vice President, and EWU Adjunct Instructor. In 2010, became a National Board certified teacher and was recognized by Cisco in 2014 as an Expert Level Instructor placing me in the top 10% of the Cisco instructors globally based on the success of my academy and the success of my students. I also serve as my local Little League’s Board President, a position I have held for all but 4 years since 2004 and my son’s Little League coach. I began teaching Microsoft Office Applications and Keyboarding and quickly fell in love with teaching technology. In 2001 I went through training to be a Cisco Networking Academy Instructor. I have maintained my Cisco Networking Academy since then and to my knowledge Cheney is the only Cisco Networking Academy offered at a comprehensive high school in Washington. In 2012 I began to investigate offering AP Computer Science at my school and was able to finally offer the class for the 2014-2015 school year. In our first year we had 23 of the 27 students who took the AP exam pass and of those had four students earn 5s. Since then I have maintained an 80% pass rate for my students on the AP exam. Part of my research into CS led me to affiliating with CODE.org and implanting an Exploring Computer Science into my curriculum offerings. I run a very successful FBLA chapter that that has earned numerous state awards and routinely places students in the top 10 in the nation. Our chapter has had one national champion, one 2nd place finish and three 3rd place finishes over the past seven years of competition with over 35 top 10 placers. Additionally I run a Cyber Patriot club that in 2015 had one of our teams pace 69th out of 1,300 teams nationally and our team’s Cisco score was top 10 in the nation and best in Washington State. I love teaching anything technology. My current course offerings include Cisco Networking, AP Computer Science, Introduction to Computer Science, IT Essentials (Computer Hardware), Cyber Security, Web Design, AP Computer Science Principles and Advanced Computer Science Projects.
