2023 - We WILL Change the World
The Ohio affiliate of the National Center for Women in Technology (NCWIT), in partnership with KeyBank, was proud to honor 59 high school women, gender queer and non-binary students. We also awarded FOUR educators, our most in history. We were blown away by this year's applicants and enjoyed celebrating all together.
This was the 10th year the Ohio Aspirations in Computing awards have been sponsored by KeyBank. Despite the COVID-19 pandemic during the past few years, we have gathered together virtually and in-person to award nearly 500 students and educators over the past decade. We know this is only the beginning and can't wait to see how much more we will grow in developing STEM in these students and educators.
This year our award ceremony occurred on Saturday April 29th - thank you to all for your engagement and participation! Eva Bradshaw, NCWIT Regional Affiliate Program Manager, welcomed recipients to the technical community who will support them on their journeys from their very first interest in computers, to leadership in their schools, to developing technology to solve some of the world’s most complicated problems.
NCWIT and Ohio Aspirations in Computing History
Since 2007, NCWIT has inducted more than 16,000 young women into the Aspirations in Computing community and is helping to usher these women into technology careers. The NCWIT Aspirations in Computing program is a talent development initiative designed to increase female participation in technology careers by providing encouragement, visibility, community, leadership opportunities, scholarships, and internships to aspiring technically inclined young women. The NCWIT offers both national and local affiliate competitions to generate support and visibility for women's participation in communities nationwide.
The NCWIT Award for Aspirations in Computing honors students at the high school level for their computing-related achievements and interests. Recipients are selected for their computing and IT aptitude, leadership ability, academic history, and plans for post-secondary education. The NCWIT Award for Aspirations in Computing offers both a national and local affiliate competitions to generate support and visibility for women's participation in communities nationwide.
