Maryland Affiliate

The NCWIT Maryland Affiliate proudly hosts the Award for Aspirations in Computing. Award recipients were selected for their aptitude and interest in IT and computing, solid leadership ability, community service and learning outside of school, good academic history, and plans for post-secondary education. Applications open each September. The award ceremony is hosted each year at a local institution.
In Maryland, over 900 students and 25 educators have been recognized since 2013.
The Maryland Board of Directors is a volunteer board with representatives from the University of Maryland, UMBC, Loyola, Maryland Center for Computing Education, CSTA- MD, and individual volunteers from the local education community and tech sector to lead this year-long effort.
CONGRATULATIONS to our 2025 National Winner and all of our 2025 National Honorable Mentions, Maryland Winners, Maryland Winners Emerita, Maryland Honorable Mentions, and Maryland Rising Stars! You should be very proud of your accomplishments. Any applicant who qualifies for the Winner level for a second, third, or fourth time, will be awarded the Winner Emerita award to celebrate their continued dedication to computing.
AWARD CEREMONY: Each April, we celebrate the awardees at a local university. In 2025, UMBC will host the ceremony with 104 Maryland Affiliate AiC Awardees and 2 Maryland Affiliate Educator Awardees at the University Center.
STUDENTS: We encourage students in grades 9-12 to apply by the November deadline every year! If you have previously won, you are still eligible to win a national award and are now eligible to win again in Maryland. If you have not yet won in Maryland, you should apply - don't take yourself out of the running before you even try! Learn more about this award and eligibility at https://www.aspirations.org/award-programs/apply-for-the-award-for-aic.
EDUCATORS: If you are a computing educator, please encourage your students to consider applying for the award, and also apply for the educator award yourself! Learn more about the NCWIT Educator Award and whether you’re eligible to apply at https://www.aspirations.org/award-programs/aic-educator-award.
